Description of the Project:

The proposed Second GMS-SCCP will construct the missing sections of the GMS road corridor in Kien Giang Province in the southern coastal area of Vietnam. Total length of alignment is 100.26km, including 89.77km main road and 10.49km connection road. On the alignment, there are 34 long bridges with the total length of 8,264m and 3 medium bridges with total length of 189m. There are 11 interchanges and intersections. In the initial stage, the alignment is constructed as grade III road, width Wembankment/pavement = 12m/11m, includes 02 vehicles lanes, the design speed 80 km/h. In the ultimate stage, it will be upgraded into class A expressway with 4 vehicle lanes, 2 emergency stop lanes. The project is funded by ADB.

The soft soil treatment was designed to compare treatment options: vacuum consolidation method (VCM), prefabricated vertical drain (PVD), sand drain (SD) and small pre-stressed concrete pile combined with geotextile. At some locations at canal encroachment or at the high embankment of the approach bridge, retaining wall or embankment protection was designed.

In addition, the Consultant was carried out other assignments for the project:

-           Investigated traffic survey and O-D investigation along NH80 in Kien Giang province.

-           Social and safeguard assessment for the Project.

-          Economic analysis was also undertaken to prove the efficiency of the Project. Environmental Impact Assessment was carried out according to Vietnam’s regulations.

• Traffic survey, topographical, geological, hydrological and hydraulic surveys.
• Hydraulic model to assess the impacts of the flood in the region.
• Design of alignment, basic design of road, bridge, intersection, retaining wall, embankment protection, drainage system, and lighting.
• Soft soil treatment design
• Preparation of Total investment cost.
